Another glimpse in the world of wizards and witches!
After the last book/ movie of Harry Potter, the Potter-heads waved sad goodbye to Hogwarts secretly hoping that JK Rowling will not disappoint her millions of fans. And she didn’t. She brought to life the story of shy, quirky and awkward magizoologist Newt Scamander author of the book ‘Fantastic Beasts and where to find them’ which becomes part of Hogwarts syllabus.
The movie, directed by David Yates, revolves around Newt Scamander’s (played by Eddie Redmayne) mission in New York involving a beast. Our hero’s arrival in New York with a peculiar briefcase, the subsequent loss of his luggage and the release of few of the fantastic creatures out in the No-Maj (American word for Muggle) world forms the plot of the movie. Of course there is more to it than this and it enfolds in the arrest and escape of Newt Scamander.
The movie, like the Potter series, has amazing casting (with another great surprise in the end) and brilliant performances. Most noteworthy (besides Redmayne) is Jacob Kowalski, played by Dan Fogler. He portrayed the confused and adorable No-Maj who releases the creatures out in the open. He has few amazing one-liners and his growing camaraderie with Newt and his creatures gives a strong emotional value to the movie. The grey character of Credence Barebone (played by Ezra Miller) who secretly conspires with the untrustworthy and manipulative Percival Graves (played by Colin Farell) member of MACUSA (American version of Ministry of Magic) has been portrayed with finesse.
There is undoubtedly amazing VFX and CG work involved to build the various fantastic beasts inside Newt’s case (which reminds you of Hermione’s magical bag) and to show the destruction and re-construction of the city in the climax of the movie. After Horcruxes, this new addition from Rowling focuses on Obscurus – you will know what this is when you watch the movie. And you should, even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan.
The movie chronicles time before Harry Potter was born but it has connection to the Harry Potter movies (it’s the same world but instead of London it’s New York) and so you hear few common names in conversations. The duration of the movie is tad bit long – 2 hours 13 minutes. Thankfully the movie doesn’t drag and packs lot of action, adventure and a fast-paced story telling which keeps you hooked and makes you want to see more of this beloved world of wizards.
IMHO, you should watch this one. Do share your comments/ review in the comment section below.
